The Toast Product Marketing team is responsible for connecting the Sales, Product, and Marketing teams by gathering market insights to inform product development and bring new products to market through customer segmentation, clear & differentiated value-based messaging, enabling the internal sales team, and cross-functional marketing activation. This is a high-impact role that will drive long-term customer and shareholder value at a public company in hyper-growth mode.

In this role, you will execute on the go-to-market strategy for our SMB customer segment and become the go-to expert on the varying needs of different restaurant types and operating models. The scope of this role includes cross-functional collaboration to develop buyer personas, target audience segmentation, product positioning and messaging, and mining insights from customer and market research. You will be a key partner influencing pricing, packaging, campaign, web journey and enablement strategies and tactics.

About this roll* (Responsibilities) 

  • Be the go-to expert on how the differences in restaurant types determine their respective needs & buying behaviors (i.e. full-service, quick-service, offers online ordering and/or takeout, has retail component, etc). You will develop deep segmentation expertise by actively engaging with our sales reps, customer marketing and success teams, interviewing our prospects and customers, and utilizing sources of additional market research. 
  • Deeply understand win/loss reasons by sub-segments within the category and socialize insights to stakeholders in efforts to optimize competitive positioning & product differentiation
  • Provide high-impact Product Marketing support for new product and/or feature launches
  • Partner with Sales Enablement, Customer Marketing & Demand Generation teams to develop high-impact assets for use by marketing and sales teams to improve brand awareness, value perception, and stickiness 
  • Develop sales and marketing experiments to test hypotheses and inform GTM strategies; including pricing and packaging recommendations. Using metrics to back-up your suggestions and decisions is a must.

  • Deeply curious about the market, competitors and customer needs:  Understands the drivers of our business and has an ability to inform product roadmaps and go-to-market strategies 
  • Strong writer, presenter, and verbal communicator:  Excels at distilling data & complex content into a clear and compelling story to “sell a vision” both internally and externally
  • Comfortable navigating ambiguity and operating in a fast & fluid environment; Seeks to drive progress by applying process, organization and thought leadership to align with overall business strategy. 
  • Cross-functional expertise: Proven ability to lead large and diverse teams via a highly collaborative mindset; Skilled at rallying others to execute & drive results
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail to ensure high-quality output within set deadlines

 

Special Sauce* (Nice to Haves)

  • Prior experience in market research, consulting, sales, or similar job role type (B2B SaaS background is a plus)
  • Experience with Salesforce, SQL, and/or Looker
  • Interest and passion for tech, and the restaurant industry
