Copy Editor

Articulate and enforce house style, manage content for multiple channels, own strategy for how the Copy Desk maintains Stripe’s bar of excellence as demand grows, develop and refine process, and mentor editors and writers across Marketing.

The Copy Desk sits on Stripe’s Content Marketing team, which creates blog posts, guides, emails, customer stories, ad copy, and more to support marketing efforts for brand, demand, and product marketing.

The Copy Editor will be the embodiment of Stripe Marketing voice and tone, working with writers who develop compelling and engaging content across channels. In addition to managing discrete reviews of content, the Copy Editor fosters a welcoming environment, providing the education and resources that allow the broader team to confidently develop Marketing assets that meet the Stripe quality bar.

The Copy Desk is also a center of process excellence, and this role will require close alignment with several teams within the broader Marketing team, driving the strategy for how the desk keeps pace with our growing organization. The Copy Editor will work across teams including demand, integrated marketing, product, brand, partner marketing, enterprise, and regional teams in APAC and EMEA.

You’re a dedicated copy editor who fully understands the power of well-constructed messaging across all channels. You have a firm grasp of voice and tone and know how to nurture that in different formats—from user comms to email nurture campaigns to standalone social posts. You’re a stickler for proper style, grammar, and punctuation. You also bring a strategic and growth mindset to your team—you’re ready to drive the programs that proliferate high-quality writing across Marketing, and partner with cross-functional teams to continually revise the Desk’s processes.

You will:

  • Collaborate with other Marketing teams to create high-leverage artifacts, including product landing pages, websites for flagship events, and comms materials for major launches and announcements
  • Serve as an editorial gatekeeper for emails, ensuring fidelity to voice and tone, consistency, and proper volume to avoid damaging user trust; in addition to reviewing for quality, you will mentor other marketers, helping them better grasp voice and tone, resulting in an overall long-term improvement of email copy
  • Assist with sales enablement assets such as customer stories, one-pagers, white papers, and other templated formats intended to build the case that Stripe is the best payments solution for all of our target audience segments
  • Manage the cadence of user comms, ensuring consistency of messaging and partnering on overall strategy for how and when to communicate with users via email and the Stripe dashboard
  • Manage the production of digital ad copy, paid social copy, and other demand-generation assets, working with a team of contractors and ensuring each asset meets the Stripe quality bar
  • Experiment with new marketing formats that help Stripe stand out from the noise and engage new users that Stripe otherwise wouldn’t have reached
  • Mentor and/or manage a small team of copy editors with an eye toward personal development and quality of work product

We’re looking for someone who has:

  • Minimum 5 years working as a copy editor across channels and experience with a breadth of content formats, in marketing or other fields
  • Experience working with a diversity of teams, including those with regional considerations, with an understanding of the subtle differences required to succeed in each context
  • A passion for copy editing and a deep understanding of the importance and power of well-constructed messaging
  • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Journalism, Communications, English, Creative Writing, or related field

Nice to haves:

  • Experience working with creative or design teams
  • Broad understanding of the mechanics and objectives of many marketing and user comms functions
  • Experience managing other copy editors, either contract or FTE
  • Working knowledge of analytics tools (Google Analytics, Tableau, etc.)

You should include these in your application:

  • A resume and/or LinkedIn profile
  • Optional: A cover letter explaining why you are uniquely qualified for this role
