Senior Manager, FP&A, Strategic Planning

  • Full Time

Spotify’s goal is to become the world’s leading audio platform, and having a best-in-class Financial Planning and Analytics (FP&A) function is needed to this mission. We are looking for an outstanding Senior Manager with a strong Corporate Finance and FP&A background to develop a team tasked with building out our forecasting suite and strategic planning capabilities across all financial documents.

In this role, you and your team will have the opportunity to pioneer and develop forecasting approaches and models that will drive multi-year critical thinking and enable Spotify leadership to make informed investment decisions. This will include developing and improving Long Range Planning and Balance Sheet/Cash Flow processes along with serving as a center of excellence for investment metrics and their application throughout the company. You and your team will also have the outstanding opportunity to continue to influence how the company thinks about one of its most critical KPIs, lifetime value (LTV), which drives investment and product decisions across the business, by providing thought leadership and consultation. By translating strategies and operational plans into financials, you will craft the way in which Spotify’s senior leadership understand and evaluate the health and trajectory of our business.

This role will manage a team of 3 and will report into the Head of Central FP&A.

What you’ll do:

  • Collaborate with business collaborators, the broader FP&A team, Investor Relations, and other Finance teams to lead all aspects of the build of the 5-year P&L and cash flow forecasts for Spotify’s consolidated business, which cuts across 92+ countries, a diverse portfolio of consumer offerings, and a uniquely sophisticated cost model
  • Support your team in the development of modeling approaches for new revenue streams, product developments, and other uncharted shifts in business assumptions that would alter Spotify’s long-range outlook across any of its core KPIs: users, consumption, revenues, and profitability
  • Create process and cadence for presenting useful insights and recommendations to Finance leadership based on the latest forecasts and assumptions
  • Drive forecasting enhancements through monthly variance analysis comparing actuals vs. forecast and leveraging variance explanations to increase accuracy
  • Oversee the build and maintenance of multi-year balance sheet and cash flow forecasting models for Spotify’s consolidated business, which harbors unique and exciting complexity ranging from geographic breadth, intensive CAPEX, regular M&A activity, and content licensing / acquisition models that drive working capital intricacies
  • Drive team subject matter expertise on sources and uses of cash through analysis of historical activities, projections around forward-looking business initiatives, and creation of standardized processes for translating expected inflows / outflows into modeling inputs
  • Lead all aspects of all cash-related cross-functional projects, including legal entity level forecasting to assist Tax with transfer pricing assessments and Treasury with inter-subsidiary cash management

    Who you are:

  • 8-10+ years of relevant financial experience in a complex and data-driven environment
  • Extensive experience with three-statement modeling and knowledge of accounting concepts
  • Strong quantitative skills and discernment, with the ability to work cross-functionally with team members from other subject areas
  • Consistent track record navigating business and organizational complexity, as well as the ability to build clarity for yourself and teammates in the midst of rapid change or ambiguity
  • A demeanor that champions collaboration, but also the ability to get the job done on your own when vital
  • Phenomenal storytelling and communication abilities, with the ability to distill complexity into articulate narratives that cater to wide audiences
  • A hunger to learn and evolve in all things — from craft to process, you never stop pushing to master existing skills and step up to the next big challenge
  • Familiarity with B2C subscription-based or content licensing business models is a plus
