At Spotify, we’ve connected millions of people to their favorite songs and built a service that people use to discover and enjoy the audio content they love. We’ve launched in 170 markets…and counting! We’re all about changing the way people experience audio, and we’ll need some very passionate people to help us achieve our mission!

The Products and Services Legal Group supports a broad range of functions and teams within the company, including our R&D, Premium, Ad Sales, and Marketing organizations. In this role, you’ll support our paid music subscription service, Spotify Premium. You’ll collaborate with business, marketing, and R&D teams to build and promote compelling subscription products that align with consumer protection requirements and achieve market fit.

Our work is innovative, groundbreaking and always evolving, so it’ll be up to you to continuously assess and guide the teams on legal matters using a flexible and pragmatic approach.

What you´ll do

  • You’ll work throughout all stages of how we develop and market paid consumer subscription plans – including research, concepting, user experience, messaging and promotional marketing.
  • Provide commercially focussed product counselling in relation to product design, flows, content experience and UX copy.
  • Negotiate commercial agreements with external partners, including partnership and bundling deals.
  • Build clear, concise and scalable terms and conditions that map to consumer protection rules, business principles and product capabilities.
  • Partner with other members of our legal team around the world to stay informed of regulatory changes affecting direct-to-consumer businesses.
  • Support other lawyers in tasks connected with Spotify’s payments function and customer service cases.
  • Be the go-to person for subscription matters, preparing guidance materials and delivering training sessions to achieve scalability and greater efficiencies.
  • Work closely with internal partners in the Licensing, Finance and Communications teams to provide integrated support to Spotify’s Premium business.

    Who you are

  • J.D., LLM (or equivalent), with admission to at least one bar (or qualification for Registered In-house counsel in NY).
  • Combined 5-7+ years of proven experience working in a law firm and in-house legal department.
  • A robust understanding of consumer protection laws and marketing & advertising regulations. You’re capable of aligning legal principles with business objectives to achieve product-market fit.
  • Experience working on legal issues relating to digital products, technology, privacy, consumer protection, and media.
  • Comfortable working at pace and in areas where there isn’t any precedent to rely upon, a readiness to dig in on the details of projects and work well as part of a team — both with other lawyers and with non-legal partners.
  • Deliver clear and pragmatic advice, have a track record of making risk-based decisions and of developing innovative solutions to regulatory challenges and developments.

    Where you will be

  • You will work out of the New York Office.
  • Our offices are currently closed due to COVID-19.
