As Legal Counsel at Spotify you will partner with and provide legal guidance to our Business Affairs and Business Development teams with a particular focus on securing publishing rights for Spotify content and enabling distribution of Spotify. Our deals are often pioneering, revolutionary, and always evolving so it will be up to you to continuously assess and advise the teams on legal issues using a creative and pragmatic approach.
What You’ll Do
Review, draft, and advise our business teams on a wide range of commercial agreements with a focus on content licensing deals with publishers and collective rights management organisations across EMEA and internationally
Collaborate with our accounting, finance and operations teams on the drafting and implementation of content licensing agreements
Advise on licensing issues that impact Spotify’s product development and growth
Improve our standard form agreements and legal processes that help us scale globally with a consistent but locally relevant approach
Work closely with our business teams to summarise and communicate legal concepts clearly and help them synthesise legal and regulatory frameworks in developing their business strategies
Advise our teams on understanding legal concepts, issues and risks, complex agreement structures, approval processes, and company policies and procedures
Who You Are
J.D., LLM (or equivalent), with admission to at least one bar (or qualification for registered in-house counsel)
3+ years of relevant law firm and/or in-house transactional experience
Solid understanding and experience of international or UK/EU copyright law and legal issues relating to music publishing and/or label licensing, collective rights management, IP, media and digital products
Experience partnering with global collaborators both within the legal team and working with external counsel
Self-motivated with the ability to identify and attack work to be done without being instructed
Ability to be nimble and work in a fast-paced environment with changing needs and demanding timelines
Willingness to get your hands dirty and dig in on the details of projects and work well as part of a team – both with other lawyers and non-legal partners
Have a practical, business-oriented approach to problem-solving and be able to effectively counsel business teams by providing pragmatic, commercial and timely advice
