Head of Communications, Consumer PR (Full-Time Temporary Role)

We are seeking a Head of Communications, Consumer PR to lead communications for Spotify in the DACH region. In this role, you will balance critical thinking with hands-on implementation and lead proactive and reactive communications from planning to execution. You will report to the Head of Communications, Planning & Strategy, EMEA whose remit covers Central and Southern Europe.

A successful candidate will have senior experience across all aspects of consumer communications including developing major brand moments, creative storytelling, expertise in culture & trends, and purpose-led communications. In addition, you should have a strong track record working cross-functionally to implement innovative ways to storytelling in the digital space, whether that’s through influencers, social channels or emerging platforms. While the role will initially focus first and foremost on consumer PR, ideally the role will expand to include responsibility for corporate, advertising, and internal communications over time.

This is a full-time, temporary position with a duration of approximately 18 months. The role may be based in our Berlin or Hamburg offices.

 

What You’ll Do

 

  • Lead external communications in the DACH region with an initial focus on all consumer PR aspects of our business
  • Act as a trusted communications counsel to the cross-functional DACH team as well as to other local leaders based in Germany’s offices when required
  • Draw upon your senior experience to confidently – and where necessary autonomously – navigate time-sensitive issues and challenging situations with a cool head and safe pair of hands
  • Bring an eye for business and creative thinking to developing, planning and project managing communications programmes aligned to Spotify’s business objectives that enhance and protect the company’s reputation in the DACH region
  • Create differentiated thought leadership programming that supports the company’s mission and local business growth goals whether that’s through developing original content for owned channels or identifying, evaluating and recommending media and speaking opportunities
  • Create communications strategies that support the company’s mission and DACH’s local and EMEA’s regional business growth goals
  • Collaborate closely with cross-functional partners in the region to ensure the consistency of our narrative across all channels
  • Be a proactive and dynamic partner to other senior leads within the EMEA and broader global communications team feeding into campaign development, influencing plans and driving standard methodologies
  • Anticipate, manage and develop communications strategies to mitigate or resolve issues that may be a threat to the company’s reputation in the region
  • Build and maintain strong relations with key media in order to drive communication objectives and generate accurate and positive coverage
  • Oversee local budgets and drive a culture of transparency and collaboration with local agency partners
  • Media monitoring and reporting
  • The role requires strong operational and project management skills, including PR agency management, as well as effective engagement with partners across the region and at different levels across the business

    Who You Are

     

  • Extensive experience as well as in developing and completing high-profile brand and consumer communications campaigns and handling complex issues
  • 7+ years of relevant communications experience in consumer PR, digital media, entertainment/music industry, or the tech industry
  • An excellent storyteller and communicator with strong interpersonal skills and a proven ability to advise and influence senior internal partners in a leadership role
  • Able to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment and under pressure without sacrificing attention to detail
  • A collaborative individual who enjoys partnering closely across teams and departments to build and distribute the most impactful communications possible
  • Courageous and willing to try out new things and learn from them when they don’t work out as planned so that you understand what you can do next time to make it better
  • A strong writer, strategic problem solver, and inventive problem-solver with excellent presentation and project management skills
  • Ability to multitask and work in a complex and extremely fast-moving industry and environment
  • Of course, an ever-enthusiastic representative of the Spotify brand
  • Experience in an international or global corporate environment
  • Fluency in English and German
