Role

Are you passionate about technology innovation and working with new product ideas, both onsite with customers and inside product labs? Our Field Solutions Engineering team is a global-level group within Splunk that builds repeatable solutions for common scenarios across various Splunk customers. In this role you will work cross-functionally supporting sales, sales engineering, customer success, partners, marketing, and product management, among others. You will imagine new ideas and opportunities, deliver custom solutions with leading edge technologies and drive new insights into real products. You operate as a researcher, developer and subject matter expert developing solutions using the full capabilities of the Splunk portfolio.

This particular position will focus primarily on envisioning, building, and maintaining field-driven solutions for Observability including Kubernetes, microservices, GCP, Azure, AWS, Application Performance Monitoring (APM), Synthetic Monitoring, Infrastructure Monitoring, OpenTelemetry and much more. The trio of logs, traces and metrics will be center stage for this role. While this role will focus on delivery of new field solutions, each individual on our team contributes in a number of other functional areas as well. These can include evangelism, technical enablement, and working directly with Splunk customers, partners and prospects to implement advanced solutions.

This role can be located anywhere in Poland. At least 20% travel should be expected when it is safe to do so. You will be building solutions for use across all of Splunk’s customers and partners, globally.

Responsibilities

We are looking for an individual with demonstrated communication skills, as well as an ability to execute on a deep technical level with IT professionals. You should be able to operate inside organizations autonomously to create and implement beta and early release software and ensure proper feedback is gathered and communicated to Product Management for future enhancements. This is a team that is in regular motion. You might, on any given day:

  • Provide expert industry knowledge internally to Splunk teams and partners on Observability related products, processes and technologies including Kubernetes, Docker, Serverless, Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, Ansible, SaltStack), CI/CD, SRE, Open Telemetry and more.
  • Provide expert industry knowledge of Splunk products, including engineering and deep integrations, so to build: new feature / functionality, technology add-ons (TA’s), Apps, Content Packs, and other capabilities to enable our customers to maximize value quickly. 
  • Write code to onboard or manipulate a particularly interesting data source, or to create an entire add-on, integration or enhancement to products within our portfolio.
  • Create applications to visualize data and tell a story that solves a common business problem.
  • Integrate solutions and data from various sources to solve customer needs.
  • Work with an external or internal partner to uplevel their app, integration, or technical add on.
  • Help a technical sales resource execute a specific portion of a particularly challenging evaluation, with your hands on the keyboard.
  • Present at an external conference or an internal event on Splunk-relevant topics.
  • Contribute a blog post to our external blog site detailing solutions that you have built.
  • Help shape the direction of Splunk’s business through decisions about organic product roadmap or inorganic acquisition.
  • File an enhancement or bug report about issues you have found in our products.

These are just a few examples – but representative of our typical cadence! A flexible and creative approach is absolutely required in this position – you will be given guidance and support, but may not be told exactly what to do, and how to do it.

Qualifications

Seeking 5+ years of proven experience within the application development or infrastructure monitoring space preferably as a practitioner, but a track record of success and extensive knowledge of containerized environments, Infrastructure as Code, CI/CD and DevOps practices. Deep experience with the following are required: Splunk and/or SignalFX technology, recent hands-on experience integrating disparate solutions and moderate to expert level Python, Javascript, Go, Node skill and web development.

  • Up-to-date understanding of current trends in the IT Operations, Observability and DevOps landscape.
  • Significant coding experience (Python and/or JavaScript preferred) and examples of code you can provide or descriptions of what you’ve written and what problem it solved.
  • Familiarity with modern SDLC methodologies (version control using git, CI/CD pipelines, application security standard methodologies) ITOps and Observability/DevOps practitioner a plus.
  • Familiarity with cloud-native serverless architectures.
  • Expert understanding of OpenTracing/OpenTelemetry functionality.
  • Portfolio of public-facing materials: repositories, whitepapers, blogs, presentations, training materials that you have authored.
  • Ability to communicate concisely and accurately.
  • Ability to work remotely and across multiple time zones with a minimum of daily supervision. Self-starter is absolutely essential.
  • Ability to travel 20%.
  • Bachelor’s degree in something related to technology, Masters or equivalent a plus.
