Director, Revenue Assurance

Databricks is seeking a passionate leader with in-depth SAAS knowledge and a strong customer-centric mindset to lead our global revenue assurance  function. This high visibility position, reporting to our Senior Director, Order to Cash and Revenue, will play a pivotal role in supporting Databricks’ strong growth and driving a scalable and efficient operation. This position will be responsible for revenue assurance  for all revenue generating activities in accordance with U.S. GAAP and Company policies. The ideal candidate will be a self-starter, a great communicator who thrives in a dynamic fast-paced environment and will take ownership representing Finance in the deal execution cycle.  This is an excellent opportunity to play a key leadership role in a high growth organization building and scaling the revenue assurance function and developing a best-in-class team.

 The impact that you will have:

 

  • Hire, mentor, and develop a best in class Revenue Assurance team located across the globe to ensure consistent treatment of global deals resulting in accurate accounting in compliance with ASC 606, US GAAP, and our internal accounting policies
  • Partner with executive finance leadership to codify Databricks’ finance quote to cash cycle policy, including documentation of thresholds for nonstandard pricing and commercial terms, exercising tiered approval authority on behalf of finance for nonstandard deal scenarios
  • Support the global Sales organization by advising on complex accounting and finance compliance issues during contract/deal negotiations in order to ensure deals are structured in accordance with Databricks’ policy and U.S. GAAP to maximize revenue.
  • Responsibility for ensuring revenue activities across varied business models, product lines and distribution channels are reviewed, documented and accounted for in compliance with Databricks’ Revenue Recognition Policy, US GAAP and Sarbanes Oxley 404 (SOX).
  • Create and provide technical Revenue Recognition training to cross functional teams including Sales, Legal, Services, etc. as required.
  • Partner with Deal Desk, Legal, and IT to identify gaps and develop and improve reporting and processes to minimize manual workarounds and maximize transactional efficiency
  • Work with external auditors to support the quarterly and yearly revenue audit, review and provide PBC’s within the deadlines

 What we look for:

  • Minimum of 4 years in a leadership/management position in a revenue accounting organization with a demonstrated ability and track record of success in driving change and improving operations
  • Bachelor's Degree in Business, Accounting or Finance required. CPA or equivalent business experience is required
  • Experience in working proactively with Sales to assist with deal negotiations, providing guidance to ensure deal structures and commercial terms result in contracts which meet company policy and objectives
  • Strong understanding and demonstrated experience in proper revenue accounting processes under current revenue recognition for enterprise software and SAAS arrangements (“ASC 606”) and US GAAP
  • Experience with Salesforce and subscription billing platforms is strongly preferred, usage-based SaaS contract experience a strong plus
  • Demonstrated ability to interact with and influence management and contributors at all levels of the organization and across functions
  • A proven leader in training and developing high-performing teams; a proactive leader and effective coach committed to the development and engagement of their team
  • Ability to respond to, prioritize effectively and meet deadlines while maintaining the highest of standards for completeness and accuracy
  • Ability to effectively operate in a fast-paced environment with ability to adapt to change
