Job Overview

Coursera is looking for a Finance leader to join its dynamic Financial Planning and Operations (FP&O) team. Heading the Finance Partners team you will directly partner with Courserians across the organization to support the strategy and execution of our company goals. The FP&O team is a key business partner in helping our leadership team, our CFO, and our board gain financial visibility and insights on the business. 

Reporting to the VP of FP&O, the Sr. Director of Finance will build and lead a Finance Partners organization that is a strategic thought partner to the business while also establishing effective planning, forecasting and reporting processes that scale with our growth. In addition to maintaining strong processes and operating oversight, you will drive truth-seeking analysis critical to optimizing resource allocation and to effectively balancing Coursera’s high-growth trajectory with desired operational improvements. You will manage the finance partnerships team that supports our whole organization. This is a high visibility role where you will prepare presentations and provide strategic advice and support for executive staff, including the CEO, CFO and BOD.

Responsibilities

  • Be a strategic partner and become a key advisor to the leadership team, building forecasting models and productivity frameworks to link key inputs and outputs across all of our departments
  • Lead total company bookings, revenue and operating expense planning and forecasting. You will roll up your sleeves and develop annual operating plans, quarterly and monthly financial forecasts, and ongoing analysis of actuals versus prior periods, plan and/or forecasts. Collaborate with Corporate FP&A and accounting to support total company forecast and close processes
  • You will develop and monitor performance indicators, highlighting trends and analyzing causes of unexpected variances. Work with team members to enhance global financial and operational performance trends (historical and forecasted) using appropriate metrics
  • You will provide counsel on strategic financial matters that focus on growth opportunities, expense control, and on profitability of the business. Identify trends and resulting implications, propose key actions and strategic implications
  • You will prepare management reporting / dashboards for Executives – analyze results, distill/synthesize business performance indicators, assess business risk and operating performance, and timely communicate risks and opportunities to management
  • You will effectively lead, develop and motivate a team of ~6.

 

Basic Qualifications

  • 12+ years of related experience in a leadership role within a Finance organization and must be a proven finance leader for internet consumer and/or SaaS business and in support of growing organizations
  • Demonstrated success in developing and applying concepts, practices and procedures of financial planning and analysis. Outstanding forecasting methods and techniques. Advanced analytical and quantitative abilities.
  • Experience leading complex work streams and cross functional efforts in fast growing international organizations. Experience in financial / process / operational / technology reviews and risk assessment required to construct well-targeted management reports within the context of business/industry operations/practices.
  • Articulate with excellent verbal and written communication skills. Capable of communicating complex financial information in an easy to understand format. Able to interact comfortably and drive alignment with the executive management team.
  • Ability to work with employees at all levels of the organization and a highly collaborative environment with a high growth, can-get-done mentality. This role is for doers; be able to get into the details and get the job done while at the same time being able to see the forest for the trees

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with international organizations
  • Experienced user of IBM analytics, Looker, Workday or Salesforce.com a plus
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Finance, Business, Economics or other relevant field
  • Experience with both private and public companies preferred
  • Proven experience with finance transformation and or process re-engineering and improvement
  • Strong leader with solid experience building and leading high performing teams and demonstrated ability to work well under pressure, thrive in a fast-paced environment and stay flexible through growth and change
