Senior Legal Counsel – Commercial at

As Senior Legal Counsel you will work closely with all areas of the business and take a consultative approach to solving complex legal, regulatory and business issues. The successful candidate will be able to lead across a diverse range of global challenges, demonstrating excellent critical judgement with a hands-on approach.

You will be joining a rapidly growing team in one of Europe’s most valuable FinTechs! The Checkout Legal team’s mission is to be a legal team that exceeds expectations. We do this by providing trusted advice and balancing risk management by fusing dedication, innovation, collaboration and integrity. 


What You will be doing:


  • You will lead change within the team and the business. Including collaborating closely on strategic, novel cross-functional and international projects
  • You will manage and develop more junior members of the team and be involved in maintaining and developing team culture
  • You will proactively improve processes, self-help material and other training guides; both for the team and the business
  • You will provide advice and support for other members of the team and the wider business; ensuring we always focus on empowering and developing other team members
  • You will lead comprehensive negotiations with third parties across a wide variety of commercial agreements, including customised customer contracts, strategic partnerships, complex business deals and third-party supplier contracts
  • You will help launch new products, always ensuring that remains compliant with legal and regulatory requirements
  • You will help the business continue to expand internationally; manage global legal risk while providing creative, proactive and results orientated advice

    About You:


  • You are a senior lawyer (8+ PQE), preferably English qualified
  • You have payments and financial services experience (e.g. FinTech, payment institution, e-money institution, bank)
  • You are excited to work in a fast-paced, dynamically rowing environment
  • You have previously worked in-house (including on secondment)
  • You can work autonomously and independently but are also comfortable working collaboratively as part of a team
  • You enjoy working closely with other lawyers, particularly in managing and developing team members
  • You have superb communication skills and can explain complex legal issues clearly and simply
  • You pick up new legal concepts quickly and have a common-sense approach
  • You have a high level of accuracy and attention to detail
  • You are open-minded, adaptable and willing to accept new challenges
