Legal Counsel at Checkout.com:
Checkout.com is seeking a talented Legal Counsel with a keen interest in product development and fintech regulation to join our Legal team!
As our Legal Counsel with a focus on product, you’ll report directly to our Associate General Counsel and work closely with all areas of the business, taking a collaborative approach to solving sophisticated legal challenges.
To be successful in this role, you’ll be able to handle a busy workload, demonstrating excellent critical judgement, attention to detail, quick thinking and agility. This is a great opportunity to work on a broad range of projects across multiple jurisdictions and play a key role in supporting the company’s rapid growth.
You will be joining an expanding team in one of the most valuable fintechs. Our mission is to be a legal team that exceeds expectations across the board, providing pragmatic and commercially focused advice, finding creative solutions to manage risk and becoming trusted advisers to our colleagues in the business.
3-6 experience as a practicing lawyer with a strong foundation gained in private practice or in-house.
Self-starter eager to learn about and become an expert in payments regulation.
Great teammate, excited to advise our product teams in building the future of payments.
Previous fintech, regulatory, payments, software, e-commerce and/or bank experience would be beneficial.
Experience working in a start up or other fast-paced and dynamic environment is desirable but not essential.
Excellent time management skills and experience managing a diverse workload and competing colleague demands.
Ability to work autonomously and collaboratively as needed, flexing the approach as the matter requires.
Strong communication skills and the ability to articulate and explain complex legal issues clearly and concisely.
Enthusiasm for new challenges and the desire to upskill yourself in different areas of law.
Extra marks if you have:
Experience working internationally and on a variety of cross-border matters.
Additional language skills, French in particular.
Dual qualification in an overseas jurisdiction.
What you’ll be doing
Collaborate and advise on new product development – including with respect to regulatory compliance with global payments regulations.
Collaborate with all core functions within the company.
Help put in place and improve existing processes and support the business in launching new products.
Advise on novel and complex issues and provide clear advice on legal and commercial issues and risks.
Monitor new legal and regulatory developments and consider their impact on Checkout.com.
Carry out research on various multijurisdictional regulatory issues.
Help the business continue to expand internationally; researching and evaluating new territories and providing creative, proactive and results orientated advice.
