The People Group’s mission is to create the most effective and engaged company in the world. The People Development Centre of Excellence is a new team at Canva that consists of HR generalists and specialists that design and deliver transformative people strategies and programs for talent identification (internal), development, engagement, and movement. So far we’ve built a global company-wide career framework, job architecture system, and performance management process… and we are just getting started!
Our mission is to deliver strategies, products, and programs that energise our employees and foster an experience where everyone can design the best work of their lives. We do this by understanding our internal people development landscape and cultural context, researching new ideas and data-backed practices, reimagining traditional People Development programs and processes, collaborating and designing with partners across the company, and delivering innovative solutions at scale.
About the role
We are seeking an outstanding Talent & OD Specialist to own the strategy, development and execution of Canva’s performance management programs and processes, called the Impact Experience. This is a recently launched program at Canva, and you will be instrumental in evolving fundamental aspects of the program (rating scale, process cadence, review components), and architecting new ones (1:1s, goal-setting, other feedback approaches) as our company quickly scales.
You’ll become the main driver for this critical program and will work closely with leaders and HR partners (Talent Acquisition, Learning & Development, People Operations, Total Rewards, People Partners) to continuously hold a high bar for the employee experience of this foundational work, such that it is seamlessly driving and inspiring growth that is grounded in Canva’s core competencies (skills) and values.
What you’ll do
Lead our biggest learning programs and support ongoing critical initiatives and cross functional goals within the team.
Rally the team around program objectives, goals, metrics and milestones, with a focus on iteration and continuous improvement.
Understand and interpret learner data to inform the direction and needs of the program.
Build and lead our program management approach within Canva U, developing a streamlined process to manage, allocate and co-ordinate incoming and ongoing learning requests in the team.
Work with our team, partners and learners to understand their biggest challenges, developing solutions to solve them and build efficiencies.
Work with goal owners, cross functional teams and learning coordinators to plan and develop scope, deliverables, required resources, budget and timing.
Identify key requirements needed from cross-functional teams and external vendors.
Drive and deliver against program goals and objectives.
Work with instructional designers and learning leads to identify and report on the program data and metrics, using this to enhance the program experience
Develop effective project plans and tracking mechanisms to ensure programs run smoothly and partners deliver in the required timeframes.
Develop engaging and effective program communications.
Key goals for months 0-6
Partner on applying the goals and takeaways from the past performance review cycles to refine and evolve the roadmap for a sustainable performance experience as Canva scales (e.g., 2022 plan, 2023 plan, etc.)
Design and evolve relevant review cycle component including evolving Canva’s rating scale and how it is communicated, review questions for individuals and managers, and other potential processes/tools for performance review
Craft a goal-setting protocol that enables every Canvanaut to set, track, and measure their progress on personal goals – and align these to company goals
Integrate best practice and research on quality feedback and mentor/manager behaviour to craft a goal and growth-oriented experience that continues outside of review cycles
Partner with Impact Program Manager to detail performance review processes, and build cohesive user experience
Partner with Canva U (Learning team) to integrate performance management training into company onboarding and roadmap for coach (manager) training
Key goals for months 6-12
Build a roadmap for optimising technology and ensuring a seamless and delightful user experience for the program
Continuously surface and share insights and recommendations that detail what’s working and what isn’t, to drive ideation and improvement to existing features of the program, and better embed them throughout Canva
The Canva performance review experience is recognised internally and externally as a premier program for driving high performance, centered on great feedback and coaching, where review processes are frictionless and embedded in the flow of work
Determine other measures of people development that would be critical for the growth of Canvanauts
What we’re looking for
Have experience working within, or closely partnering with, Talent and Organisational Development teams (particularly around performance management, feedback, goal-setting)
Have a strong curiosity about measuring the efficiency of programs and continuously improving them
Are energised by owning large and sophisticated projects
Have empathy and understanding of the challenges and opportunities for first-time managers and leaders
Are skilled in understanding, building trust with, and influencing senior partners with divergent views and experiences.
