About the team

Canva’s Payroll team is part of the Finance & Legal group and predominantly based in Australia. We manage payroll across our growing number of Canvanauts worldwide and our headcount growth comes from Canva entities, as well as through any companies that we acquire globally.
With payroll being one of the most critical functions in Finance, the team has a huge part to play in making Canva one of Australia’s best places to work. We strive to ensure every Canvanaut is paid accurately and on time.

The primary role of this Payroll Specialist will be on a 6 month Fixed Term basis, covering a parental leave, to be responsible for the preparation of the in-house payrolls for several countries end-to-end, working closely with the other Payroll Specialists, the Finance Manager and HR Ops team. As we continue to automate key financial processes, there will be an opportunity to be involved in multiple projects and initiatives.

 

What you’ll do

 

  • Own the end-to-end payroll processes of the in-house payroll fortnightly payroll for New Zealand & In-house semi-monthly payroll for the United States
  • Preparation and review of key information to make up the monthly payroll with our current and future EOR’s
  • Composing the analytics, becoming familiar with all the various drivers of payroll variances and will learn to spot outliers and unexpected differences for escalation
  • Familiarising yourself with the payroll integration between our HR platform and our Payroll platforms, ensuring controls are maintained & any improvements implemented
  • Be a part of the continuous improvement and scaling of the expanding global payroll processes as the key point of contact for the business for all things payroll for your countries of ownership
  • Prepare various compliance, reporting and documentation requirements

    We would love it if you had

     

  • Relevant payroll experience, an understanding of payroll concepts, compliance and knowledge of international payrolls and industry legislation
  • Analytical skills and the ability to understand costs, trends and provide insights
  • Ability to take ownership of processes and an eagerness to apply previous findings to new challenges and evolve with the growth of the company
  • Experience with cloud-based in house payroll platforms and accounting systems, such as NetSuite (Infinet Cloud) and Paylocity
  • The ability to deal with large volumes of data, adept with Excel and Google Sheet
  • Experience with business partnering with key internal partners & external vendors, so as to deliver a great service to all levels
