Working at Atlassian
Atlassian can hire people in any country where we have a legal entity. Assuming you have eligible working rights and a sufficient time zone overlap with your team, you can choose to work remotely or return to an office as they reopen (unless it’s necessary for your role to be performed in the office). Interviews and onboarding are conducted virtually, a part of being a distributed-first company.
At Atlassian we believe in the power of teamwork. Our mission is to help unleash the potential in every team through open work. Do you thrive on making high performing leadership teams hum? Do you have experience driving a powerful operational strategy, and a knack for keeping busy senior leaders accountable and productive? If so, this may be the perfect opportunity for you!
Atlassian is seeking a driven and well rounded Principal Program Manager to provide strategic delivery to support to our Work Management for All mission, reporting to the Group Program Manager, Work Management.
We move fast in Programs & Practices, and this role will certainly keep you on your toes. You’ll organize highly complex initiatives, and have the ability to see around corners and anticipating issues before they arise.
You’ll prioritize, focus and create flow across cross-functional teams with a multiplying effect on the broader Atlassian Products Group. You’ll excel at context switching as you prioritize staying connected while juggling multiple delivery streams (and moving them rapidly along), all while keeping calm under pressure.
About Programs & Practices:
The program managers and coaches that make up Atlassian’s Programs & Practices team draw from a mixture of disciplines—but all of them are change agents, curating and communicating the practices that inspire and guide our best work.
The role of the team may be complex, but their influence is clear and threefold: First, PgMs lead strategic planning for teams across Atlassian, bringing programs to completion and driving results. Second, PgMs bring their experiences back to the group and partner with Practices colleagues to collectively hone the craft and define the way work gets done across the whole company. Third, PgMs facilitate this knowledge transfer to Atlassian’s products, ultimately transforming work for our customers around the world. P&P’s experienced, collaborative, and organized team helps us make a difference in highly visible, strategic projects.
Programs & Practices sits within the Transformation, Operations & Platform organization with the mission to unify and accelerate company-wide transformations, raise the bar on operational excellence and supercharging Atlassian’s ability to get (the right) things done. This group forms the backbone connecting planning and execution across Atlassian, driving operational excellence all the way from when we form corporate strategy to when we deliver real results to our customers.
In this role, you’ll:
Delivering on key strategic programs – As a key piece of the Work Management organization, you will drive large, complex, critical programs across multiple different teams. This will include cross-cutting project management with stakeholders that sit in many different parts (and levels!) of Atlassian (platform teams, product teams, business strategy, finance, People Team etc).
Be a strategic partner – You’ll be a strategic partner on a leadership team driving a critical company priority initiative. This means being a trusted sounding board for decisions, consolidating requests, and making recommendations or representing the team’s thinking with different audiences.
Be an aggregator – company level goals and reporting: Collaborate with our PgM leaders to sweep, coordinate company readouts, forecasting and facilitation during leadership cadences.
Be a trusted partner to R&D disciplines across product, engineering, and design to facilitate prioritization and trade-offs.
On your first day, we’ll expect that you have/are:
7+ years of experience of Program or Project Management, Operations, or similar.
Experience prioritizing, managing and tracking multiple projects simultaneously with the ability to work autonomously in a fast-paced, high-growth environment.
An excellent collaborator and communicator that can expertly inspire change across teams.
A track record of setting appropriate expectations, crisp execution, and on-time delivery.
A keen eye for detail and a strong desire to uphold high standards of excellence
Truly self-motivated with a desire to constantly learn, develop and grow in the role.
Driven to turn the chaos rapidly to clarity and then communicate it clearly.
A bias for action, constantly striving to get things done.
Integrity and trustworthiness with humility/willingness to question one’s own assumptions.
Someone who can communicate well with stakeholders from all across the business at many different levels, and enjoy it!
